Laser Cutting Services
All Job Sizes/Scales
From a single thoughtful present for your sweetie to a production run so large the stack of material blots out the sun (we’ll cut in the shade:) we do all sorts of jobs at all sorts of scales.
Cutting
No big secret here, we cut all the way through the material leaving you with a positive and negative piece. It’s always good to let us know if you need one or the other or both. For some synthetic materials like acrylic it leaves a nice flame-polished edge as it is melting/vaporizing as it cuts. For organic materials like wood, wool felt etc the edge will be darkened as it is burning its way through. This can be incorporated as a design element in many cases. We use vector files to cut designs as the laser head will follow the line work in the file.
Scoring
Similar to cutting but the laser is set to reduced power to stay on the surface, this is good for things like putting a line drawing onto a material, to add reference marks to cutouts like a topographic model to aid in assembly or possibly when you want to fold a material precisely you can use a score to make that happen. We also use a vector file for this technique.
Engraving
This is when we turn the laser cutter into more of a printer: the laser head moves back and forth making passes burning into the surface to “print” an image into the surface of the material. This is when you have areas that you want filled in rather than line work. We can use vector files or image files for this technique and can be adjusted to engrave deeper below the surface depending on the material.
Large Format Laser Cutting
We have two tables at 2’x4′ and 4’x8′, generally any non-rigid material like fabric, paper etc should be cut on the 2’x4′ table as we have aluminum honeycomb to support it, the larger table is generally for rigid material.
In-Stock Materials
We stock a wide variety of materials but you are welcome to supply your own as well, if we do not stock the material you want to use we can most likely source it from our vendors around Southern California.
