Laser cutting paper can be a very impressive process as it requires very little power to cut so the material left can be very narrow, depending on the specific paper and thickness it can be as little as 1/64″ to still come through intact which can allow a very intricate pattern to be cut such as personalized ketubahs or something similar to papel picado panels. Cutout areas can have different colored paper behind them for a striking contrast as well. Depending on the composition of the material there will be some degree of light scorching on the backside which is more evident when using lighter colors. Generally it’s not a great idea to cut stacks of paper at once as the smoke and residue will infiltrate between the layers and discolor both sides of many of the sheets, however if appearance is not important this is a possibility, such as making a high volume of single-use/disposable paper stencils. Paper products can be scored or perforated in order to be folded accurately for lightweight boxes and containers, generally with thin paper we will do a spaced out perforation to ensure that the line does not cut all the way through. We stock some cardstock but it is usually better to supply your own as there are so many different colors, textures and thicknesses so you will have it just the way you want it, especially if you are looking to cut wedding invitations, business cards, letterheads and other stationery.
