Laser cutting is definitely the way to go for topographic models as the accuracy and consistency will make it really come together. It is important to determine the material you are looking to use before you start slicing up your 3D model, or on the flipside, make sure the material you are using has the accurate thickness you are looking to use as often materials labeled (1/8″) are actually 3mm which adds up over a few layers. We recommend a program called 123DMake that autodesk put out that can take a 3D model and auto-generate sheets based on the material thickness and size of sheet, it will also add a numbering system in a different color that helps a lot when putting the pieces together to make it easier. It will also add dowel holes to help you keep things aligned. We liked the option where you could change the orientation of the plane of the slices to however you wanted it to really give the site model some dynamism.
